I had been looking to get a dog, but hadn't yet been able to answer all the "what if" questions to owning a dog. She answered the questions when she showed up.She turned out to be the perfect dog.For five wonderful years she blessed us, and the many people she came in contact with. Everyone who knew Snickerdoodles loved her.
She came to me on Memorial Day weekend, 2004. My friend found her, wandering the country road at midnight, she seemed lost. My friend opened her car door, saying "are you lost baby?" The tiny dog jumped in. My friend, having just left my house moments prior, came back and told me how she found this little dog on the road in front of my house.
For weeks my husband and I searched for her owner, thinking someone was desperately looking for this marvelous little dog, which I named Snickerdoodles. We couldn't believe no one claimed her, she was so perfect, well mannered, smart, already trained in sit, lay, stay, etc and learned new tricks in just minutes. She came to be my constant companion when I wasn't at the office. Everywhere we went people fell in love with her, so cute and sweet.
We were so special, Snickerdoodles and I. Our favorite day was Friday, when we would run errands, our favorite places being the local green house/nursery, the home improvement store, andof course the pet supply store. Even the delicate Hallmark store employees joyfully greeted Snickerdoodles. An excellent travel companion, she took many weekend journeys with me, and even spent weeks with me in Colorado exploring mountains.
While Snick didn't particularly like cats, she could tolerate them, mostof the time. But she would turn her back every time our old tomcat came into the room, and on occasion she would even chase old Tom out of the area. Snickers was the little princess of the house, and she didn't like sharing our attentions with the cat.
Five years exactly she blessed us with her love. She crossed the rainbow bridge on Memorial Day weekend 2009, after a six month battle with all sorts of complications following having a tooth pulled, allergic reaction to meds, congestive hearth failure and liver problems. It was hard to let go of Snickerdoodles' hand. Saying goodbye was the hardest part.
Her memory will forever be in our hearts.
